ESSENTIALS OF ANXIETY MANAGEMENT: PANIC, PHOBIAS, AND GENERALIZED ANXIETY

We will discuss crisis management by identifying elements of a crisis; analyzing the four stages, response approaches, and communication; understanding effective conflict resolution techniques and tools to support clients before, during, and after a crisis; and understanding the relationship between compassion fatigue and rational detachment.

OBJECTIVES: 

  • Explain the epidemiology and etiological factors that contribute to anxiety disorders, including prevalence, risk factors, and common trajectories.
  • Identify and describe the range of clinical presentations and symptoms associated with anxiety disorders across age groups and contexts.
  • Conduct structured assessments using standardized diagnostic criteria, validated assessment tools, and thorough clinical interviewing techniques.
  • Differentiate between panic disorder, specific phobias, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, including key diagnostic features and comorbidities.
  • Compare and select appropriate evidence-based therapies and complementary coping strategies, and create individualized care plans that integrate psychosocial supports and relapse prevention strategies.
